George Pilkington

Iconic player of the 00’s

George Pilkington was born in Rugeley and started his playing career with Stone Dominoes before signing for Everton in 1998.  After 5 seasons without a first team appearance for the Toffees he was signed by Vale manager Brian Horton in June 2003, making 49 appearances in his first season and 48 appearances in 2004/05.

A reliable and composed defender, who could play in a number of positions, he was made captain for the 2005/06 season in which he finished as an ever-present member of the team.  He was deservedly voted Player of the Year by the Vale fans.

George left the Vale in 2008, having made over 250 appearances for the Valiants in just 5 seasons. He went on to play for a further 10 seasons in League 2 and the National League amassing a career total of 647 appearances.
